Kids Furniture

Having a baby changes you in more ways than one. Among many other things, as a designer it made me aware of a whole new genre of design which I use to completely overlook before - Kids Furniture.
That's the reason why, when I was passing by the Vitra store the other day, I was re-fascinated to see this masterpiece. Designed by Charles and Ray Eames in 1945 in bent plywood. Yes 1945!!!. It is a timeless masterpiece.
That got me into thinking, that I am completely unaware of any furniture store in Mumbai who sell amazing kids furniture. By amazing I mean some thing on the likes of these images below and not "just paint it in pastel pink or blue and it is for babies" kind of stuff or the big brand molded plastic stuff, but really unique pieces that get my creative juices flowing.
Like this rocker designed by Doshi Levien "The inspiration of the design came from finding that children are interested in playing with items that are normally not meant to be played with. The Rocker by Doshi Levien attempts to mimic the appearance of a mysterious, unknown object that incites the child to imagine all the different possibilities and uses for it."

Or this crib in bent ply and acrylic.
Or this Leander Stool Set
And this dresser by Kalon Studios

So guys can you pleeease suggests me some store in Mumbai or even India for that matter who sell beautiful kids furniture?? coz I am planning on redecorating my li'l munchkin's room

  1. Great picks u've got there! bent plywood if designed n executed well can really become timeless:)
Ikea (don't know if its in India) has got some great designs ..can't vouch for the quality though! I'm satisfied with their accessories more than the furniture..

  2. Just awesome idea ! I love your blog. This is a cool site and I wanted to post a little note to tell you, good job! Best wishes!!!
